Polishing

Polishing

Polishing is a finishing technique. Through the use of polishing drums, polishing motors, pastes or abrasives, a material removal or the filling of depressions is achieved. The surface created with it is often shiny due to the smoothness.

In manual polishing (polishing by hand), objects or surfaces are rubbed with a soft cloth or a brush, often with the aid of chemical additives, to obtain a gloss effect.

When mechanically polishing metals, gold, silver, minerals, brass, aluminum, etc., the polishing process is usually carried out by means of rotating polishing discs made of fabric, felt or leather. On the disc, the so-called polish carrier, the actual polish is applied either as a suspension or as a so-called solid paste. The polish consists of various fats, oils and the actual polish.

Polishing drums simplify the process of polishing by continuous rotation in the closed drum with the addition of polishing and abrasives and additives.
